Signs of an Abusive Relationship You Must Know

Are you in an Abusive Relationship?

Sometimes we get into relationships that become so overwhelming that we lose sight of ourselves.  We get a little lost in the fog, which makes us ready to overcompromise with our partner, and that can become abusive.

In a relationship, we sometimes fall out with our partner, and sometimes disagree with family and others close to them.  We also sometimes say or do things that we regret, creating unhappiness for those close to us.  But if this forms into any sort of consistent pattern, then it is an indication of domestic violence and abuse.

If you answer yes to more than one or two of these questions, it may indicate that you may be experiencing domestic abuse.

  1. Are you ever afraid of your partner?
  2. Have you ever changed your behaviour because you are afraid of what your partner might do or say to you?
  3. Has your partner tried to keep you from seeing your friends or family?
  4. Does your partner constantly check up on you or follow you?
  5. Has your partner prevented you from starting or continuing to study, or from going to work?
  6. Does your partner unjustly accuse you of flirting or of having affairs with others?
  7. Do you suspect or know that your partner is having or has had affairs?
  8. Does your partner constantly belittle or humiliate you, or regularly criticise or insult you?
  9. Has your partner ever deliberately destroyed any of your possessions?
  10.  Has your partner ever hurt or threatened you or your children?
  11.  Has your partner ever kept you short of money so you are unable to buy food and other necessary items for yourself and your children, or made you take out loans?
  12.  Has your partner ever forced you to do something that you really did not want to do?
  13.  Has your partner ever tried to prevent you from taking necessary medication or seeking medical help when you felt you needed it?
  14.  Has your partner ever tried to control you by telling you that you could be deported because of your immigration status?
  15.  Has your partner ever threatened to take your children away, or said they would refuse to let you take them with you, or even to see them, if you left them?
  16.  Has your partner ever forced or harassed you to have sex with them or with other people? Have they made you participate in sexual activities that you were uncomfortable with?
  17.  Has your partner ever tried to prevent you from leaving the house?

How many did you score?
